There was cricket for the County Championship purist on offer at Emirates Old Trafford on the third morning of the Specsavers County Championship match between Lancashire and Nottinghamshire.
Replying to Lancashire’s 332 and having thereby conceded a first-innings lead of 90, Nottinghamshire were 32 for no wicket after 26 overs at lunch with Steven Mullaney having faced 82 balls for his 15 runs and Greg Smith having kept out 68 deliveries in compiling 17 not out.
The lunchtime figures of Lancashire’s bowlers fully reflected their accuracy. James Anderson had conceded nine runs from six overs and Kyle Jarvis’s analysis read 7-5-4-0. The Nottinghamshire openers were justifiably content to survive and hope to quicken the pace of scoring later in the day as the ball aged and Lancashire’s bowlers tired.
In the first 5.1 overs of the morning Lancashire had lost debutant Liam Livingstone, who was leg before to Jake Ball for 70, and Kyle Jarvis, who was caught at slip by Mullaney off Samit Patel for 37. Simon Kerrigan was left unbeaten on 13.
