A CARLTON family will be glued to the television this weekend, as their son takes on the very best cricketers in the world.

Brett Hutton has been selected for the 15-man England squad to contest the ICC Under 19 tournament in Australia, starting with a game against the hosts on Saturday in Townsville.

The former Portland and Worksop College student will then pit his right-arm seam bowling against Nepal and Ireland.

Proud mum Donna hopes to be able to watch him in action, despite the time difference.

She told the Guardian: “Some of the matches will be live on Sky, starting with the game against Australia, and although we can’t guarantee he’ll be playing we will be watching.”

“We’re very, very proud of everything he’s achieved so far and this is a bonus.”

The 6ft 3ins star made his Notts debut last March at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, so he’s no stranger to performing thousands of miles from his home.

Although he was delighted to get the call up for his country, Donna said the selection was tinged with sadness as friend and Notts team-mate Sam Kelsall missed out.

“He was obviously very pleased, but a little bit disappointed for his friend.”

“There were three at Notts who were expected to be called up, but only two were, so it wasn’t a certain thing.”

Hutton featured for England in a warm-up match against Zimbabwe in Brisbane on Wednesday and gave a great account of himself with 55 runs and three wickets.

And his mum says the side have high hopes for the World Cup.

“They’ve gone out there with the intention of winning and they’ll give it everything they’ve got.”

“They’re fully committed lads and they stand a good chance.”

Head coach Tim Boon said it would be an incredible experience for his young charges.

“We’ve got some great games to look forward to against top class opposition at such a prestigious tournament.”

“We’re looking forwardto giving them an opportunity to impress at this level and hope will we compete strongly throughout the competition.”
