Glory for local stars

Another busy weekend of competitions saw five Retford swimmers travel to Queen’s Leisure Centre, Derby for the City of Derby Level 3 Open Meet, whilst Ponds Forge was the venue for 11 young swimmers competing at the Stocksbridge Pentaqua 18th long course Open Meet.

Highlights of the Derby weekend included one gold, two silver and six bronze medals for 14-year old Liam Marshall, resulting in an overall third place finish at the end of the weekend.

Jacob Roberts, 13, secured one silver and three bronze medals.

In a very successful day at Ponds Forge eight swimmers brought home 18 medals between them, including four golds for 10-year old Tom Deeley and three golds and a silver for 12-year old Samuel Templeton.

Four Retford swimmers travelled to Beverley Leisure centre for the Doncaster Dartes Minster Meet.

It was a successful day for the young competitors with all achieving personal best times in more than one event and several top 6 placings.

Eleven-year-old Alex Richardson finished in seventh position at the end of the day in the ‘Top Boy’ category for his age group.
