Cricket: Kumara stars again for Retford

Chandra Kumara was the star man with the bat once again for Retford on Saturday, in Bassetlaw Cricket League’s Division One.

Retford visited Whitwell and came home with a win and 17 points, as Kumara carried his bat for 54 runs.

Whitwell made 153 for 8 in their innings, restricted by Eddie Tofts (3 for 43).

In reply, Retford made 157 for 4, Kumara, Pascal Broadley (30) and John Cooke (30) responsible for the majority of the runs.

This Saturday Retford host Clumber Park.

Ordsall Bridon were involved in a big relegation battle in the Notts Premier League, and suffered an 81-run loss to Radcliffe-on-Trent.

Bridon won the toss and put Radcliffe in to bat, and despite 35 from Josh Mierkalns, will have been more than happy having reduced the visitors to 53 for 4.

Robert Sutton and Jake Fish then took over, their partnership reaching 176 when Fish fell for 67.

Sutton went soon after for exactly 100, but the damage was done, Radcliffe finally all out for 279 in the final over.

Tim Miles led the bowlers, taking 4 for 83, and Aqab Ahmed 3 for 52.

Despite a stand of 77 between Henry Appleyard (38) and Sufian Munir (68) Bridon never looked like chasing down the target.

Bridon remain rooted to the bottom of the table, and take on Welbeck Colliery on Saturday.
