Why oh why do football fans do it to themselves?

FOOTBALL fans are strange beasts.

Devoting a sizeable amount of their time travelling around the country, following a group of men who all wear the same shirt and kick a ball around a (regularly muddy) patch of grass. Why?

For days like last Saturday.

A lengthy journey to Walsall, some freezing fog, and a poor selection of pre-match cocktails did not bode well.

Two hours later, three points in hand, everything was for the best and hats were being worn on the side of heads.

That on occasion we couldn't see the other side of the pitch did not matter. We saw enough to know we were worthy winners.

Surprisingly, the misery expressed in some quarters after being held at home by Willenhall was hard to find, as the Badger collective performed, both on and off the pitch.

The Rushall fans, and officials, were a credit to their club, and to the Unibond league.

I only hope we can repay their hospitality and post-match generosity when they visit Canon Park.

As I write this, the players are on their way down the M1 to Shepshed for another top of the table clash.

By the time you are reading this, we will truly know if the corner has been turned, and the Old Badgers are back.

But the signs were there. It promises to be another tough test of our resolve, but the unity and fight that was displayed on Saturday is in evidence again, then there is nothing to be feared.
