Tributes paid to Blues hero

GAINSBOROUGH Trinity supporters have paid their respects to a three-time Blues hero.

Gary Ingham, 48, tragically passed away last week, and his former club held a minute’s applause on the Northolme on Saturday before their fixture against Harrogate Town.

The goalkeeper had three spells for Trinity, over six seasons, and his death prompted tributes from supporters and officials of many of the clubs he played for in a long career.

Ingham counted Stalybridge Celtic, Stocksbridge Park Steels, Frickley Athletic, Doncaster Rovers, Leek Town and Belper Town among his former clubs.

Gainsborough Trinity chairman Peter Swann said: “I would like to offer the club’s deepest sympathies and condolences to Gary’s family.”

First team manager Steve Housham added: “I’m deeply saddened. Gary was a true Blue and always had Gainsborough Trinity Football Club at heart.”
