Retford Under 15 Girls’ reward for winning a prestigious football tournament was the chance to meet a ‘psycho’.
Legendary England defender Stuart Pearce was on hand to present the girls with their silverware at the ESF Festival of Football U15/16 tournament at Butlins in Skegness.
Playing nine games of football over the scorching hot weekend, the girls took on two U15 teams and seven U16 teams including Huddersfield Town and Charlton Athletic.
The Retford girls shone against the older age group and outplayed them on their way to the title.
The squad included captain Chloe Waugh, Amelia Huddlestone, Lily Baker, Maisy Whittall, Bethany Bennett, Ellie Baines, Ella Mowbray, Macey Wilson, Leanne Neale and Amber Ellis.
The girls were awarded their champions trophies by Pearce at an awards ceremony and Waugh was awarded the golden football prestige award for her ‘golden moment’ during the weekend.
The girls now go onto play in the national ESF festival finale in July at the University of Warwick football centre; which boasts some of the finest pitches in the country.
The facility is regularly used by the Premier League and was a training facility for the London 2012 Olympics.
