Cannon Fodder: Less said the better

The less said about the game on Saturday, the better.

We hit the bar after three seconds, and had two goals disallowed after five minutes.

Following that, very little happened. Except the onset of hypothermia.

That said, nothing that did, or didn't , happen, warranted the reaction of somef fans at the final whistle.

It has to be said it was only a small number, but they made sure their feelings were heard.

Quite why they were so proud of their opinions I am unsure, as such poorly thought-through actions are hardly the sort of thing I'd want to put my name to.

I am never sure what people who openly criticise players and management are hoping to achieve.

If some stood by the door as I left my place of work and told me I wasn't good enough, I can't say I'd be too eager to remedy the situation.

I'd be far more inclined to see if anyone else wanted me to do the same job in slightly more pleasant surroundings.

I very much doubt that shouting in people's faces, booing and venting one's anger appears in any handbook on how to motivate people.

As fans, we all pay our money.

And we all have differing opinions on how the game should be played, who should play it, and why everything isn't perfect.

But ultimately surely we all want the same thing.

Namely, to be able to say we follow a successful team, a team that we can be proud of.

No-one will ever convince me that people perform better under unnecessary criticism.

If we were languishing at the wrong end of the table, then perhaps they may have had a point.

But the cold hard facts are that we are lying third, with games in hand.

We have rarely got out of second gear, yet alone third. If and when we do, the rest of the league will not be able to keep up with us.

If we somehow don't manage to, we still have already proved this season that we have enough grit and determination to do what needs to be done when it really matters.

Some fans just need to get a grip.
