Cannon Fodder: Complacent Badgers?

A long journey over to Stoke was rewarded with a convincing 4-2 victory. With the travelling fans on fine form, and an early goal silencing the home fans, the scoreline actually flattered Kidsgrove.

The team seems a lot more disjointed this season, and whilst the number of injuries we have been carrying clearly hasn't helped, there does seem to an air of complacency hanging around.

To an outsider, it looks as though certain members of the squad think they did the hard work last season, so that this season they don't have to try as hard.

Well, I beg to differ lads.

If anything, there needs to be a greater effort.

Teams see us as a scalp, so we need to be able to raise our game when it matters. We managed it against Alfreton.

But we need to see it more regularly in bread and butter games, such as this Saturday's game at home to Willenhall.

The league is much tougher this season, with two or three other teams pushing hard for top spot.

It would be a crying shame if all the great work of last season was wasted this.

Tuesday night's defeat to Newcastle Blue Star was disappointing, but ultimately the goal for this season has to be promotion, so the fewer distractions, the better.

The low attendance indicates that the people of Retford seem to agree. Quite why the league insist on us playing all these games, which ultimately end up costing the club money, I do not know.

No-one cares.

Not the players, not the management, not the accountants. And certainly not the fans.
