Badgers poised for summit surge

RETFORD United lie just one point behind UniBond First Division South leaders Carlton Town.

But Peter Duffield's Badgers have three games in hand, and will hope to have overtaken Carlton by the end of 2008.

Saturday's game at home to Brigg Town was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, with only two matches in the division taking place.

Badgers host Leek Town this Saturday, Glapwell on Boxing Day, and travel to Sheffield FC on New Year's Day, in three crucial fixtures that could see Duffield's men go top of the league.

The form of striker Mick Godber has been influential in United's surge up the table this season.

Godber has 13 league goals and has netted seven times in cup competitions.

Badgers' front line has also been recently bolstered by loan signing and returning hero Neil Harvey.
