UP and coming golfer Reece Samson held off the field to win the Notts Boys Championship by six shots at Retford.
The Creswell teen was crowned champion after carding a remarkable five under par in the morning round and three over in the afternoon session, to score 142 over 36 holes.
He joins the list of promising youngsters to follow in the footsteps of Worksop golfer Lee Westwood, who won the tournament in both 1990 and 1991.
Proud dad Neil, from Eyre Street, said it was a fantastic achievement.
“It was amazing. All the hard work he has put in has paid off and we are so proud of him,” he said.
His nearest competitor on the day was reigning Midland Boys Champion Jack Sallis, who finished with a score of 148.
But Reece, 15, who also won the Lee Westwood Junior Championship stableford competition at Worksop Golf Club in 2009, drove his way to both the U18 and U16 title.
“The support he has received from the family and especially his granddads has helped him get here.”
“I’m sure he will keep on progressing. He’s very level-headed and knows his school work comes first,” Neil added.
