WORKSOP golfing starlet Emily Lyle has bagged her first ‘major’ championship.
The 14-year-old won the Four Counties Championship at Hinckley Golf Club in Leicestershire last week.
The tournament involved girls under the age of 18 from Lincs, Leicestershire, Notts and Northamptonshire.
Worksop Golf Club member Lyle shot a gross 74 to win both the Four Counties Salver Gross, and the Under 15 Trophy Gross.
Delighted dad Andrew told the Guardian how she won it.
“Emily had a bad start to the round with a double bogey on the first hole and then a bogey on the second, but she tried not to let this spoil her game and managed to birdie the third.”
“This then settled her down to pick up another birdie on the front nine, and she managed to par her way back in, but dropped a shot on 17, before a par at the long 18th.”
“This is Emily’s first major championship and has made all the hard work and practice pay off.”
The title has not been won by a Notts girl since 2002.
Lyle has one more championship left to play this season – the Midland North tournament at Beeston Fields.
