WOODBECK Diagonals Under 8s won their first league fixture against Keyworth United, in the Notts Youth League.
The fledgling club is in its first season and plays at Rampton Hospital.
The game started spritely enough with both teams playing the passing game.
The first goal came Diagonals way from a handball in the box. Sam Hutchinson eagerly slotted the penalty home to make it 1-0.
Then Hutchinson doubled his tally by heading the ball past a stranded keeper from a Daniel Mitchell precision cross.
Jason Riley cashed in and poked the ball home from a scramble in the keyworth box as Diagonals sailed into a 3-0 lead.
In the second half Keyworth showed spirit to rally in the latter stages by getting two quick goals, one of which had a large slice of luck.
Diagonals goalkeeper Zac Dilly showed athleticism as he sprung across his box to parry a shot onto the post, the ball bounced along the line to agonisingly go in off the other post.
The hosts maintained the lion’s share of possession to see the game out and start the season with a home win.
Man of the Match was Ryan Hickman.
