Dinnington Town had to make do without the majority of their senior players, when a strong-looking Rotherham United side visited on Saturday.

With a host of regulars out of the country on a stag-do, Dinnington hosted a Millers team that included two transfer listed senior players, in Lionel Ainsworth and Kayode Odejayi.

Millers were much quicker to get into their stride and looked much sharper throughout their team.

They took the lead on 19 minutes when Ayrton Bevins slotted home for a deserved 1-0 lead.

The lead was doubled two minutes later when Michael Williamson gave home keeper Adam Ledger no chance with a powerful shot.

Town pressed forward looking for the equaliser but were caught out when Rotherham swiftly counter attacked and Ainsworth directed an accurate shot out of the reach of home keeper Ledger.

Town had a good chance to reduce the arrears on 44 minutes when a well worked freekick resulted in Greg Taylor’s powerful header being tipped over the bar.

Rotherham quickly made Town pay for this miss by sweeping down the pitch and Odejayi scored in an unmarked position at the far post.

Town regrouped in the second half and with the inevitable substitutions, proceeded to dominate much of the play.

They reduced the arrears on 55 minutes when Luke Rafferty out-muscled a defender and ran away to score a well taken goal .

On 61minutes Aaron Knight had a powerful free-kick well saved and four minutes later Ryan Hukin lobbed over after a good flowing move.

But Rotherham held firm, despite Town’s spirited second half fightback.
