Woodbeck Diagonals recorded their best win of the season with a 3-0 victory at home to in form Old Bemrosians, from the city of Derby.
Diagonals, recently plagued with injuries, had been bedding in replacements and in this game the team really gelled.
Although the goals came freely in the second half, the pressure was relentless in the first for Old Bems.
Within the first 10 minutes Jason Riley had tested the goalkeeper and Haydon Rush had hit the post from a low drive, to register the Diagonals’ intentions.
Old Bemrosians rallied but chances were kept to a bare minimum.
In the second half the game began to open up as the ball went end to end.
Callum Rush put in a peach of a corner for Alex Rush to head home from just three yards. hen Ben Gains curled a 30-yard free-kick into the top right hand corner leaving the goalkeeper totally stationary.
Callum Rush poked the ball home from a rebound to make it three and put his side in complete control.
Sam Hutchinson and another Gains free-kick both should have added to the scoreline, but for the acrobatics of the Old Bemrosians goalkeeper.
It’s the clubs best win this season from start to finish and the clean sheet made it even more special.
The win keeps the Diagonals in contention with the top three in the league and a chance for promotion.
Man of the Match went to right-back Jack Douglas for his impressive performance.
