BRIAN Little wants his Trinity side to avoid the mistakes of the last two seasons, and get off to a good start.

The Blues boss highlighted the importance of early season form, ahead of today’s Blue Square Bet North opener at home to Solihull Moors.

“I missed the start of the season two seasons ago and they’d had a bad start,” he said.

“We certainly had a bad start last season.”

“So it’s vital to get off to a decent start, we’ve seen it in this league.”

“If you get off to a good start you gain so much belief.”

Little has rebuilt his squad this summer, with a number of high profile signings adding to those who remained from last season.

His aim, and that of chairman Peter Swann, is to secure promotion, and he’s looking to the new season with cautious optimism.

The former Aston Villa supremo told the Standard: “Nobody here is shouting that we’re going to do this, that and the other, but if we get off to a good start we may well be challenging at the top.”

“That’s the aim, to be at the top end of the table, certainly in the top half, looking at play-offs or hopefully even higher than that.”

“Only time will tell.”
