THE region’s brightest sporting talents were highlighted at the Bassetlaw Sports Awards.

Volunteers, coaches and lifetime servants to sport received some richly deserved recognition at the annual ceremony at North Notts Arena on Friday.

Worksop-born Team GB high jumper Stephanie Pywell, a former Retford Athletics Club standout, was the guest of honour, 10 years after winning an award herself.

Retford ABC boxer James Foster was the winner of the Sportsman of the Year (14-18 years) award, after a stellar year in the ring.

Sportswoman of the Year (14-18 years) was Everton youngster Alice Howe, a sprinter from Doncaster Athletics Club.

And Serlby Park School’s squash star James Peach was the Sportsman of the Year Under 14.
