THE Badgers crashed to only their fifth defeat of the league campaign against a Stocksbridge side who secured their place in the play-offs with this result.
The game started with United winning a corner in the fourth minute that was floated into the area by Luke Staton, but Mick Godber could not get over the header and the effort was over the bar.
Waide Farihurst then had a great effort for United that Andrew Jeffrey did well to clear, the ball fell to Hindley who put in a cross that was met by the head of Steve Owens, but Jeffrey was able to make the save. Fairhurst was again in action shortly after, but his fierce shot was just wide.
Stocksbridge had a great chance to open the scoring when Carl Fothergill made a break, Dan White doing well to clear the danger.
Badgers conclude their season at Shepshed Dynamo on Saturday and host Bradford Park Avenue in the UniBond Chairman's Cup final on Tuesday night.
Stocksbridge took the game to their visitors in the second half and hit the post from a cross on the right.
Luke Staton had a chance when his free-kick shaved the post at the other end, and then a cross from Hindley was headed goalbound by Godber but Jeffrey was low making the save.
On 63 minutes, a Stocksbridge player was felled in the United penalty area, the referee pointing to the spot.
Alvyn Riley stepped up to hit the spot-kick low and to the right of the outstretched Kingston to score the only goal of the game.
