ON the race scene Retford Wheeler David Houlton was again among the top finishers in the midweek TLI road race on the Harworth circuit, but was beaten to the line this week by his team mate Alan Hazard, both finishing within the top 15 riders.
Houlton was again to finish within the top 20 riders in the Tommy Simpson road race which was held on Sunday on the Harworth circuit.

Promoted on behalf of The League of Veteran Racing Cyclist, he did well among some of this countries best riders
who had gathered for this 60-mile classic event.

Paul Austin competed in the mid week Hull City RC 10-mile time trial finishing with a time of 23 minutes nine seconds and in the Sherwood CC 25-mile time trial at Cromwell he just failed to beat the hour with a time of one hour three seconds, on an evening where the conditions were not as good as it appeared.

It was another day of gale force winds for last weekend's club run to Matlock Bath.

Taking a route by way of Thoresby, Warsop, Tibself and Tansley the extreme windy conditions made the journey difficult and unpleasant.

After a short break for refreshment the decision was taken to return by a more direct route using the main roads through Hathersage, Chesterfield, Worksop and back into Retford.

The club run on Sunday is to Navenby.

Meet in the market square at 9.00am.

New riders are welcome.
