ON the race scene Paul Austin had a successful outing to Manchester Velodrome with the League of Veteran Racing Cyclists.

He was first in the 12-lap scratch and second in the Keiron, with Harworth's Dave Clarke in third.

Last Sunday the club ride was to Southwell, a distance of about 55 miles.

The club ride this Sunday will be to Thorne Lakeside, about 65 miles on a flat route with a cafe stop at the anglers cafe.

Riders can expect to be back in Retford for about 1.30pm. Meet in the market square at 9am or Gringley Beacon at 9.30pm.

New riders welcome.

Local riders may wish to know that a small group of elderly, retired cyclists meet at Ranskill cross roads every Tuesday and Thursday at 10am for a ride of about 50-60 steady miles, with a cafe stop for lunch.
