Have your say

Since we broke the news that renowned Worksop butcher E.A Bird & Sons had closed its doors readers have been flocking to comment on social media.

It is claimed the company has gone into voluntary liquidation, and staff at the Bridge Place shop told the Guardian they were made aware of the announcement this afternoon.

It is thought the branch in the town has around eight employees and has been situated in Worksop for over 100 years.

Lindsay Aslan said on our Facebook page: “Such a shame. It’s the staff that I really feel sorry for.”

Emma Marsden said: “What a shame!!! Remember shopping here as a child every weekend.”

And Sam Barratt added: “Where are we going to get a decent jacket potato from that provides side salad, and a decent fresh sandwich. Sad times.”

Lyndis Beeston posted: “Worksop will not be the same without Bird’s butchers. I worked there in 1975 and I enjoyed working there.”

Other readers remembered some of their favourite sandwiches and other products from Bird’s.

Jackie Bartley said on Facebook: “That’s so sad, loved their stuff especially their tomato sausage.”
