Celebrations were underway at Avondale Carehome in Bircotes last week as resident Margaret Moore celebrated her 100th birthday with family.

Mrs Moore, who was joined by her two surviving children, eight grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren, turned a century old on Thursday 9th October.

Son John Moore said: “We had a wonderful day with Mum. It was great how the whole family turned up to celebrate her birthday- there was barely enough space for everyone! The youngest was just three years old.”

“My Mother was born at the seaside but came to Bircotes after marrying my Dad, John, in 1934 and moving here with him.”

“They often went out dancing in Worksop together.”

“She is a very open and jolly person, and absolutely loved the party. We’d like to say a massive thank you to the amazing staff at Avondale for making the day so special.”

“I don’t know if my Mum has a secret to keeping so well- but she does drink a lot of tea!”
