Coun Jo White, cabinet member for regeneration, said: “It was fantastic that so many people came out to support our Christmas lights event, especially the number of children who were thrilled to see Frozen characters Elsa and Anna, who put on a great show.”

“Christmas is a magical time for children and I hope that these popular characters, as well the other attractions such as Santa’s Grotto, carol singers, bands and the fireworks, helped to get everyone into the festive spirit.”

“That was certainly the case for Ellie May Newman who won the chance to switch on the lights.”

“This was also the first time we have held the ‘switch-on’ event on a Sunday and we hope that local businesses and traders benefitted from this extra day of trading.”
