A new bus service which provides a regular direct link between Retford and Nottingham has come into operation.
The new Sherwood Arrow route is an extension to the existing service between Worksop and Nottingham and, as well as providing a two-hourly service between Retford and the city, also means easier access for people wanting to travel to and from Sherwood Forest and other attractions.
The new service is being run by Stagecoach in partnership with Notts County Council. Stagecoach have run a direct service from Worksop to Nottingham for many years but a similar service from Retford has not operated since the 1980s.
The council spends £270,000 a year supporting the Sherwood Arrow service in total, with the new Retford to Ollerton stretch accounting for £110,000 of that.
In real terms the new route provides savings of £109,000 a year whilst providing an improved service to the area.
“We are delighted to be working in partnership with Notts County Council to enhance the Sherwood Arrow and introduce the new link from Retford into Nottingham,” said Dave Skepper, commercial director for Stagecoach East Midlands. “We hope to encourage more people from the city and county to use the bus for journeys to the leisure attractions served by the Sherwood Arrow.”
