IT was a new year and new addition to the family for one Retford couple.

Anna and Chris Woodhead managed to celebrate the start of 2013 before welcoming another very special arrival.

Baby Leo William Woodhead was born on 1st January at 3.15pm, weighing a healthy 8lb 1oz.

He had been due on 21st December and his parents had been planning for a Christmas arrival, but little Leo decided he would keep them waiting a bit longer.

“We were dreading a Christmas baby,” said Chris. “I don’t think it’s nice to have your birthday on Christmas Day, but New Year’s Day is absolutely brilliant.”

“It’s a great way to start the new year.”

The couple managed to celebrate the start of 2013 with a Chinese takeaway before they prepared themselves for becoming parents for the first time.

“We had been in hospital on New Year’s Eve because Anna’s waters broke. They told us to go home and come back in the morning,” said Chris.

“We had a Chinese and tried to get back to normal for a bit and went back in the morning.”

Chris, who owns a plumbing business in Retford and Anna, a primary school teacher, are now settling back into life at home.

The happy couple want to thank everyone at Bassetlaw Hospital for looking after them.

“All the midwives were brilliant, absolutely superb,” added Chris.
