Contingency crews across Notts dealt with a total of 16 incidents during the latest 24-hour strike period.

The walk-out began at 9am on Tuesday 9th December and concluded at 9am on Wednesday 10th December.

Of the 57 calls received by the control room, contingency crews responded to 16 incidents from a number of strategic locations across the county.

They included road traffic collisions, some small fires, false alarms and a significant rescue of a man from the River Trent.

Chief Fire Officer John Buckley said the period was far from ‘business as usual.’

Mr Buckley said: “While we, as a service, have coped well with the operational demands placed upon us, the impact of another 24 hours without our regular crews has certainly been felt.”

“Normal business, much of which is usually carried out by firefighters, has come to a standstill.”

“This includes our educational initiatives, our work with businesses and work we carry out with partners and local communities.”
