RETFORd’s Stephen House will NOT be closing but the Notts County Council-run day service may be moving to another venue, the authority has clarified this week.

Bassetlaw Learning Disability Association will continue to run their own services from the Chapelgate building but the county council will be offering day service users a place at the new Eastgate facility in Worksop. The £1.7m development is not due to be finished until September next year but service users will be found an interim day service at either Grove Street, Retford, or Greenacre, Worksop, from next June. They will continue to use the facilities at Stephen House in the meantime.

Cabinet member for adult social care and health Coun Kevin Rostance said the council must save £154m over the next three years and must make better use of its resources, adding that many day service buildings in Bassetlaw are running well below their capacity. “To ensure its facilities are used more efficiently, the proposals would make day service buildings suitable for shared use by all service users and more available to the local community at evenings and weekends,” he said.
