THE new Wellow May Queen for 2011 is Eleanore Leigh.
The 14-year-old has been chosen following a secret ballot by villagers.
She will be crowned by retiring May Queen Millie Goodall at Wellow’s Maypole Celebrations on Monday 30th May.
Eleanore lives in Wellow and attends the Minster School. She started maypole dancing round the village’s famous maypole when she was just four-years-old.
It is the third time lucky for Eleanore as she was Maid of Honour in 2009 and 2010.
Eleanore’s Maids of Honour will be Emma Knight, Lottie Hayes and Evie McCool, who were the other candidates in the May Queen election.
Currently the village is without a maypole as it was taken down in November last year due to safety concerns. However, as a result of generous donations by many local people, a new maypole is assured and will soon be erected on the village green.
