Motorists faced long delays in Monday night’s rush hour after a car transporter blaze closed the M1 motorway.

The fire engulfed the huge truck and its load of nine cars at around 1pm on 25th November.

It closed the section of road between junctions 30 and 31 near Woodall services.

Tailbacks were said to stretch back 12 miles while fire crews battled most of the afternoon to bring the blaze under control.

Other commuters tried to find alternative routes but this led to congested roads in the surrounding area.
