A classic Bon Jovi rock song has been adopted by students at North Notts College and transformed into a spooky, yet educational music video.

SHOT Thru The Heart was created by media students at the college in collaboration with Bassetlaw Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

With its zombie comedy / horror style plot, the video will be used as a training tool raise awareness among hospital staff of best practice in giving blood transfusions.

The group of 12 students devised the film which they filmed in the hospital and wrote lyrics for the song.

It was performed to the backing track of Bon Jovi’s You Give Love a Bad Name.

“The finished video is excellent and conveys a serious message in a fun and unusual way,” said media lecturer Darren Dutton.

“Having gained attention through the spoof plot and specially written song lyrics, staff are encouraged to visit the clinical website to keep up to date on national guidelines for blood transfusions.”

Fellow lecturer Liz Mossop said: “The students did a great job developing the story board and filming the video in just one day which has been great work experience for them for their future careers.”

Lee Paterson, from the Trust’s clinical skills team took a lead role in the video and sang the lyrics written by the students. He said: “We got a professional video and NNC students to learned to interpret what we required and used their skills and creativity to bring our vision to life.”

“The experience has been amazing from our perspective. The students were professional, gave advice and listened to our feedback.”
