An elderly Manton man was swindled for cash by distraction burglars yesterday (Monday 13th January.)

The 77-year-old was approached by a man at his home in Manton Dale, Worksop, at around 10.15am.

He offered to do some work on his roof before stealing the victim’s wallet containing cash.

Two local men, aged 29 and 23, were arrested on suspicion of burglary. They have since been bailed pending further enquiries.

Notts Police is advising people to always check the identity of strangers who call at the door.

You should verify their details with the company they claim to work for and maybe arrange for them to come back when someone else can be with you.

If in doubt do not open the door.

A spokesman said: “Look out for your elderly relatives and neighbours. If you or someone you know has been approached in a similar way, especially in that area yesterday morning, contact the police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
