Help for Heroes volunteers teamed up with local army cadets and 92-year-old veteran Ken Beard to sell sweet treats donated by the public on Saturday 26th April.

A grand total of £1,500 was raised during the charity cake sale, which took place at the Priory shopping centre.

The money raised will fund essential support for injured and sick service personnel.

Tony Eaton, regional co-ordinator at Help for Heroes, said: “So many cakes, buns, jams and biscuits were baked and donated.”

“They all sold very quick- so it’s a good job we had loads more cakes brought in throughout the day by the very generous Bassetlaw public.”

“Of course, one of the highlights of the day was having the World War Two veteran Ken Beard on board, along with his partner Edna, who attended to help us sell the cakes.”

“The public loved talking to one of our World War Two heroes about his experiences.”

Tony added: “We would like to say a huge thank you to the Priory centre manager, Lynnette Bray, and her security team for allowing us to take over the centre and to help and support us throughout the day,”
