*Children from Whitwell Middle FC’s under 11 team helped with the official opening of the village’s new Co-operative food store.

The store is a result of a £1m investment by the retailer and the team received a £200 donation as a thank you.

The store has been designed around an appreciation of good food, wine and modern cuisine, and includes a cash machine, self-scan checkouts and a customer car park. The existing Post office is transferring to the new store from the Wellbeck Street outlet.

Richard Harding, store manager, said: “We’re excited about welcoming customers into our new store.”

The new Co-operative store will be open from 7am until 10pm, seven days a week.
