The 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings will be celebrated in Oldcotes this summer with a special concert by Sinopia.

The London-based female trio are set to return to Oldcotes Church following their successful Christmas concert.

this time they are inviting concertgoers to commemorate the D-Day landings and the centenary remembrance in aid of the Worksop branch of The Royal British Legion.

The charity is in need of financial support and the hope is that this concert will help raise much-needed funds.

Professional soloists Phillipa Thomas (mezzo-soprano) and Marianne Wright (soprano) met as members of the local award winning Cantamus Girls Choir and continued their musical training at UK Conservatoires where they then met soprano Kirsten Barker and pianist James Williams.

The versatile programme will feature excerpts from popular operas, 60’s pop classics and poignant songs from the war years.

The concert is at St Helen’s Church on Saturday, 7th June.

More informationn and tickets priced £10 each are available by emailling sinopiavoices@gmail.com or contacting 07714 093247.

The Guardian is spearheading a campaign to help save the Worksop branch of the British Legion from closure.

The Legion is hoping for a good turnout at the concert to help support their cause and also raise awareness of two other major events happening in the town this year.

On 4th August in the town’s market square, there will be a special service and evening event to mark the 100th anniversary of Britain entering World War One.

And on 25th October, they will be holding a Festival of Remembrance at North Notts Arena.
