People are being asked their views on whether North Anston Post Office should move to a new base.

The Post Office has launched a six week consultation on proposals to move the service from inside the convenience store on Rackford Road to an off licence on Nursery Road.

The move into The Wine Station would create a modern open plan branch with longer opening hours.

It would be one of the Post Office’s new local-style shops, making Post Office services and products available from a till at the retail counter.

These would be provided alongside retail transactions during shop opening hours.

If the move goes ahead the branch would open from 8am until 8pm seven days a week - 38 hours more Post Office service than at present.

“We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in Anston and we are confident that this new modern Post Office service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future,” said Adrian Wales, Post Office regional network manager for central England.

“This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and marks a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”

The Government has pledged £1.34 billion to update branches and ensure there is no programme of Post Office closures.

In November it announced a further £640 million investment in the Post Office network between 2015 to 2018.

Up to 8,000 branches across the country will benefit from modernisation alongside investment in more than 3,000 ‘community’ and ‘outreach’ branches.

Now it is your turn to have your say during the consultation which ends on 28th May 2014.

Tell the Post Office of any issues or comments you would like to be considered before a final decision is taken.
