A spectacular funnel cloud was spotted dangling over the Clowne skyline last night (Wednesday).

Eagle-eyed resident Charlotte Mason quickly grabbed her camera and took these dramatic shots of the would-be tornado.

She said the cloud formation looked like it was above Chesterfield.

But it was visible from her home in Clowne where she took these pictures.

Several funnel clouds were reported in skies over Britain last night as the country braced itself for a stormy weekend.

The clouds can cause tornadoes if they touch the ground.

The Met Office has issued warnings of thunderstorms, floods and hail storms over the weekend for the East Midlands region.

Some forecasters even predicted tornadoes.

The storms are expected to produce torrential rain in places on Saturday, and there could be some localised flooding.

But there is still some uncertainty as to exactly where the heaviest of the rain will fall.
