A mother, whose son spent six weeks in the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) at Bassetlaw Hospital, has returned to the unit to say thank you and to present staff with a cheque for £750.

Heather Whittaker’s son, Huey was born eight weeks premature in August last year.

He spent six weeks in the SCBU until he was well enough to go home.

Huey’s family were so delighted with the care and support they received they decided to fund-raise.

And Heather’s brother Matthew Basnett took the profile of the unit to national attention earlier this year when he took part in the London marathon and decided on the SCBU as his chosen charity.

Heather said: “The care and support the staff showed us during our six weeks on the unit was second to none.”

“We just wanted to say thank you to everyone.”
