VIDEO: Burglar stealing from Worksop home

NOTTS Police have released CCTV footage of a sneak-in burglary which happened in broad daylight in Worksop- in a bid to prevent similar crimes this summer.

The video shows a burglar stealing from a house in Priorswell Road while a young mum is upstairs with her son.

"You never think it's going to happen to you," the 21-year old mum said. "I nipped upstairs for only a few minutes. I heard the knock on the door and looked out of the upstairs window and saw the man walking away from the house."

"When I got downstairs I realised what had happened – it was awful. I won't ever leave my doors unlocked again if I'm not in the room because this has taught me how easy it can happen in just a matter of minutes."

The video shows a man approaching the frontdoor of the house just before 3pm on Thursday 11th June.

"This burglary happened within the space of five minutes, in broad daylight, on a busy residential street," said Det Chf Insp Simon Firth, of Bassetlaw, Newark and Sherwood Police.

"Almost one third of all burglaries are committed through insecure doors and windows. I hope that by releasing this footage we will identify this offender and secondly, encourage people to lock their doors and windows if they are not in the room."

Detectives are also trying to trace a male pedestrian seen walking past the scene of the burglary as the offender leaves the property.

The offender is described as a white man, with short light brown hair, tall, of skinny build, wearing a white sports jacket bearing a small blue pattern and dark trousers.

If you were the male pedestrian in the CCTV footage or you have any further information is asked to contact Detective Constable Andrew Brownless in Worksop CID on 01909 500999 extension 7134.

Witnesses can also call Crimestoppers, free and anonymously, on 0800 555 11.
