Teen walked out of Tesco with stolen TV

A JOBLESS Bolsover teenager who broke into cars while high on amphetamine is to get help with his drug problem.

Chesterfield magistrates were told on Monday that six cars in a secure compound at Chesterfield Auto Supplies, Riverside Way, Bolsover, were damaged on the night of 30th January.

Staff member Neil Hyson found a satellite navigation unit was missing from one vehicle and stereo systems were taken from other vehicles.

Prosecutor Becky Mahon said Ryan Tatum was identified from blood found on a seat inside one vehicle.

"He said he was walking past the premises with someone he would not name and they both entered the premises to see what they could steal. He cut himself breaking windows.

"He said he was high on speed at the time and sold property on to fund his drug addiction," said Miss Mahon.

Tatum (18) was in further trouble on 12th March when he walked out of a Tesco store in Alfreton carrying a 195 LCD television he had stolen.

"He was stopped and the property was recovered. He said he went there intending to steal that item and he had a 30-a-day drug addiction," added Miss Mahon.

Tatum, of Moorfield Square, admitted both thefts and had previous convictions for handling stolen goods and burglary.

John Wilford, defending, said Tatum had already received a probation supervision order for offences committed before the thefts.

Magistrates put him on a six-month drug rehabilitation programme and ordered him to pay 400 compensation to Chesterfield Auto Supplies.
