Soldier banned from driving

A SERVING soldier who flipped his car after drinking five pints of lager was banned from driving for 40 months.

Ben Ford, Retford, had been out with his family on 1st November when he decided to go to Sheffield and meet up with some friends.

He admitted drink driving after he crashed a Vauxhall Corsa on the B609 Retford Road.

Jane Ball, prosecuting, said: "He turned the vehicle over and was fortunate that no-one else was involved."

The court heard that at the time, he had only just got his license back after a 20 month ban in January 2007.

Defence solicitor Tony Hadfield said: "He made the stupid decision to drive to Sheffield and accepts the stupidity of this."

He added: "He now has to go back to Germany – where he is based – and face the army authorities on this matter."

Ford, was has been in the army for six years, was also fined 360 at the hearing before Worksop magistrates on Monday.
