Shirebrook crack down on speeding drivers

SHIREBROOK Safer Neighbourhood Team has launched a new initiative to clamp down on speeding and dangerous drivers in the town.

Local residents had identified the problems and the issue has now been made a priority policing issue in the area.

Officers joined forces with Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, Chesterfield College and Bolsover District Council to organise a crash simulation event to demonstrate the dangers of driving irresponsibly.

More than 250 people including local youngsters and their families attended the demonstration on Saturday.

Said PCSO Nicola Greenfield: "The drivers targeted by our demonstration not only cause a nuisance to residents in terms of the noise they create, but they are also dangerous to other motorists and pedestrians.

"Since the event we have seen a noticeable improvement in the standard of driving in the area.

"Over the coming weeks we will continue to work with partner agencies and the roads policing unit to tackle any problems with nuisance vehicles in Shirebrook."
