Professional footballer admits causing pensioner's death

A PROFESSIONAL footballer who may be playing at Wembley this month, has admitted causing the death of a 77-year-old Retford man by dangerous driving.

Adam Chapman, 20, of Hillview Crescent, Clarborough, was involved in a fatal collision on the A620 Gainsborough road in May last year.

Nottingham Crown Court heard he was on loan to Oxford United who play York City in a Conference play-off at Wembley.

Chapman had his case adjourned last Thursday until sentencing in June and his bail conditions allow him to be away from his Notts address for the match.

He pleaded guilty to causing the death of Tom Bryan by driving dangerously in his Vauxhall Corsa on 9th May last year.

The pensioner, of Hallcroft, Retford was driving a Honda Civic in the opposite direction from Retford to Gainsborough.

Judge Tony Mitchell adjourned the case until 4th June.
