New dementia singing group
A new singing group for people living with dementia is being launched by Alzheimer’s Society in Retford.
Funded by money raised by Health Regard through The Health Lottery, the first session of Singing for the Brain will be held on Friday 15th March.
The free sessions, which run for eight weeks, will offer people with dementia and their carers an opportunity to benefit from singing and musical activity and aims to improve well being and help reduce isolation.
Singing for the Brain is a programme developed by music specialists to help people with memory problems and has been specifically created for people with dementia and their carers to help to sustain mental and psychological well-being.
Angela Warren, Alzheimer’s Society Singing for the brain leader, Notts said: “Singing for the Brain provides an opportunity to build friendships, gain support and share experiences with people who understand the issues surrounding living with dementia. It’s great fun for all involved and promotes communication through singing.”
“The Singing for the Brain sessions can help with articulation, concentration, focus and motivation. We offer vocal, rhythmic and some gentle physical exercise with songs from different eras and styles to match everyone’s tastes.”
The sessions are at Hallcroft Community Centre, on Randall Way from 10.30am-12.30pm. Booking is essential so to reserve a place call 0115 9343800.
