Nether Langwith pensioner battered wife to death

AN 82-year-old Nether Langwith pensioner who battered his wife to death with a table lamp has been detained indefinitely under the Mental Health Act.

The body of 77-year-old Eunice Carr was found at the marital home on 28th May 2008.

She had suffered serious head injuries and was lying face down in bed at the house on Langwith Lodge Drive.

Her husband, Arthur Carr, was arrested at the scene and later remanded in custody charged with her murder - a charge which was changed to unlawful killing because of his condition.

Nottingham Crown Court was told on Thursday how he hit his wife over the head up to eight times, fracturing her skull

At an earlier hearing, a judge ruled that Carr was deemed unfit to stand trial and was detained in a secure psychiatric hospital in Northamptonshire.
