THREE people have been remanded in custody after they appeared in court charged with the murder of a man found on farmland in Everton.

The body of Alan James Easton, 50, of Dunbartonshire, Scotland, was discovered by a member of the public on Saturday 2nd February 2013.

Police formally identified him on Friday 8th February, nearly a week after he was found at Middle Cross Lane, between Harwell Sluice Lane and Everton Lane.

A cordon was in place for much of last week while forensic investigators carried out their work.

A post mortem has been completed but police said Mr Easton’s cause of death was inconclusive.

A total of five arrests were made in connection with the case.

They included a 13-year-old girl who was later released without charge, and another man aged 27.

Angela Downing, 47, and Stephen Schofield, 31, of Windmill Avenue, Conisborough and Matthew Duffy, 22, of Sussex Street, Doncaster, appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on Monday.

Judge John Milmo adjourned the case to 3rd June when the trio are expected to enter their pleas.

All three defendants were remanded in custody.

If a trial goes ahead, it would take place around the 12th August and would be likely to last two to three weeks.

Detective chief inspector Phil Cox, who lead the investigation, said he still wanted to hear from anyone who was in the area before Mr Easton’s body was found.

“Although we have made arrests detectives are continuing to make enquiries in the area,” he said.

We are keen to speak to anyone who might have seen something unusual in the area, particularly between Friday 1st February and the afternoon of Saturday 2nd February.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Notts Police on 101 extension 817 1520 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
