Motorists urged to GO20

DRIVERS are being asked to slow down to 20mph in Worksop’s built-up areas to keep pedestrians and cyclists safe.

Road safety charity Brake launched its GO20 campaign at the start of Road Safety Week on Monday.

The charity is calling for more authorities to GO 20, the government to work towards 20mph being the norm in all communities and drivers to pledge to GO 20 in built-up areas - even where 30 limits remain.

Notts County Council’s local transport plan manager Sean Parks said there are 20mph zones outside Netherton Road in Worksop covering Ryton Park Primary, Holy Family Catholic Primary and Outwood Academy Portland.

“We install 20mph zones where they are considered the best method to address a particular issue; for example as part of a casualty reduction scheme, or outside a school where traffic speeds are an issue,” he said.

“However, where residents have concerns about traffic speeds, the county council works with them to identify the most appropriate measures to help address their concerns, which may include a 20mph zone in the future.

“Residents or schools concerned about speed issues should contact their county councillor to discuss the matter.”
