Masked armed men raid Kiveton store
A KIVETON shop owner is offering a £1,000 reward to catch three masked armed robbers who raided his store early on Wednesday morning - taking £400 cash and a stash of booze.
Two men carrying a shotgun and knife threatened a female staff member at the Costcutter store on Station Road while a third man kept watch at the door.
Shop owner Irfan Ghani said the attack has left the community in shock and he is now offering the major reward to help catch the culprits.
“This is a nice and peaceful area and everybody is really in shock about it. Nobody likes to think this kind of thing happens on their doorstep - especially me,” he said.
“This is the first time a thing like this has happened. The girl wasn’t hurt but she is obviously very shaken by what happened and is scared to return to work.”
The female worker was behind the counter when the three masked men burst into the shop and demanded cash, cigarettes and alcohol.
The girl handed over the cash while the men took a bin from behind the counter - filling it with a large quantity of cigarettes and bottles of booze.
Mr Ghani said the men were only in the shop for a matter of minutes but subjected the worker to a ‘terrifying’ ordeal.
“These men knew what they were doing. They were masked and wearing gloves - it was a clearly planned attack,” he said.
“They kept demanding more cash and stock but that was all we had. They were only in there for about four or five minutes. Luckily the girl wasn’t hurt but it could have been much worse.”
Mr Ghani described one of the men as very tall and of muscular build and the other two as being of average height and build.
“I would urge anyone who has any information or who witnessed them entering the shop to come forward,” he said.
“I am offering a £1,000 reward to anyone who can come up with information leading to a conviction.”
A Kiveton Park resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said he knew something had happened when he was walking to the train station on Wednesday morning.
“There were four police cars outside the shop and officers walking up and down the street,” he said.
“It is really shocking to think that something like that has happened round here.”
Anyone with any information about the incident or who witnessed the men is asked to call South Yorkshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
