Improvement for sewage network

Guardian News

Guardian News

Rotherham residents and wildlife will benefit from improved river water quality thanks to a £7.7million investment by Yorkshire Water into one of its major waste water treatment works.

The money will be used to increase the capacity of its Aldwarke waste water treatment works which treats 26 million litres of waste water each day from over 100,000 people in the Rotherham area.

The improvements will mean it has more capacity to cope during times of heavy rain as well as being better able to deal with predicted population increases in the next 15 years.

The water discharged to the River Don will be much higher quality, specifically being lower in ammonia.

Construction work is due to start early this year and is expected to be completed by the end of next year.
