Harworth residents raise money to support cancer patient

A casino night at the Blacksmiths Arms pub on the 27th October raised £465 for Adele Kingston, 38,
Adele, 38, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008 and requires treatment for brain tumours not covered by her NHS trust.
The money went into a fund set up by pub landlord and family friend Peter Humphrey who organised the night to help pay for her care.
“Initially it didn’t look very busy and I panicked a little, but by the end of the night it was packed and it turned out to be a great success”, said Adele
The event, which saw a performance from singer Tony Casino from Retford, included prize giveaways donated by local businesses.
Speaking of her ordeal Adele said: “Four years ago on my first day of maternity leave, when I was 26 weeks pregnant, I found a lump.”
“Two weeks later I was diagnosed with progressive breast cancer and started chemotherapy after my baby was born.”
Doctors found two tumours in her brain following an MRI scan on 3rd August 2011 and referred her for treatment, but after more scans another two tumours were found.
NHS funding in the Doncaster and Bassetlaw region means that because she has four tumours, one over the limit, her therapy will not be paid for.
A new drug from America - PDM1 - will be trialled on Adele but it is uncertain whether the drug will work.
Several other fundraising events are planned for the year, which include a steak and quiz night at the Blacksmith Arms on the 10th November, a sponsored skip by the Harworth amateur boxing club, a sponsored swim by Peter Humphrey and a head shave by Adele’s sister Amanda Lindsay.
Speaking of the casino night, landlord Peter Humphrey said: “I would like to thank all the businesses who donated prizes and everyone who came.”
Added Adele: “Thank you everyone who came and donated and keep your eyes peeled for other fundraising events.”
