Elkesley man who headed national drugs crime gang to be sentenced today
AN Elkesley man who headed an organised national crime gang is to be sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court today.(Friday 24th October).
Peter Halpine, 54, of Larnwood Avenue, is charged with five counts of supplying class A drugs and possession with intent to supply.
He and three of his associates were charged as part of Operation Wince, after police carried out drugs raids at several premises around Retford on Friday 12th October, 2007.
Following the searches, police seized a substantial amount of class A drugs, a large amount of money and a number of firearms.
The four men who were charged appeared before Worksop Magistrates Court the following Monday and were remanded into police custody.
Halpine was the main member of an organised crime group, which was discovered by police between 1st December 2006 and 13th October 2007 to be involved in conspiring to supply cannabis, cannabis resin, amphetamine and cocaine.
Investigations on Halpine and his ten associates have established he worked at Retford Fields Sports on Bridgegate, Retford - a busines which supplied firearms, knives and various forms of outdoor clothing.
The sentencing will take place tomorrow at 10.30am.
